These models originate from an attempt to isolate, within small stone volumes, the “rarefied matter” (Luigi Moretti "Strutture e sequenze di spazi", understood as the internal void of architecture. This void is conceived as a symmetrical, negative counterpart to other expressive qualities, including materiality, chiaroscuro, and plasticity.
Working at a microscopic scale - formalized through the reduction of architectural space into a hand-held model - enables a holistic comprehension of the volume while necessitating a rigorous selection of formal elements capable of articulating the essential nature of the space.
The use of stone reflects a deliberate engagement with a resistant and non-comfortable medium, one that demands slowness and full bodily presence in the act of making. Each gesture is irreversible and therefore requires careful planning in both movement and intensity.
